What are the best horror fiction books ever written? There is a real fundamental flaw that its rather hard to write or describe something that would be haunting for an adult instead of appearing just as bizzare or disgusting

Preston & Child - two authors who write as a time. The Pendergast series - just wonderful. Full of superstition and dread and real world horror. Just fantastic.

I'm partial to Clive Barker. He has a great imagination for horror and dark fantasy. I've read a half-dozen of his books and have enjoyed them all.

Of the ‘horror’ Writers I have read I will always return to Stephen King. If you only know SK from the films, forget it. They are, apart from Shawshank Redemption, a pale pastiche of a master craftsman. After all SK said in his biography “Why wouldn’t you be afraid of what is under the bed!”

Thje one author that frightened me the most is Edgar Allen Poe. Of course, I was 10 when I read his books, but still...
