It's an old military term that is a faux acronym for "fucked up beyond all recognition" (or repair), ca. 1940s.

@mordant FUBAR(Fucked up beyond all recognition),and SNAFU(Situation Normal All Fucked up) are some more. FIGMO(Fuck It Got My orders) as in I don't care,my next duty assignment's here,but turn that around and you have OMGIF(Oh My God I'm Fucked) as in a bad assignment.

@Allikat That is wrong. It is Fucked Up Beyond All Recognition. Something that has been, and l am sure is still used, all across the military for decades. 🙂
