If you were able to live to the age of 90 and retain either the mind or body of a 50-year old for the last 40 years of your life, which would you choose?
Why?

Mind, my body’s already shot. Bad spine, replacement hip, neuropathy in my right butt and down to my knee. Did I mention arthritis? But, I make the best of every day and try to walk about 3km. I can walk the pain away, takes the first km. But my mind, yes, and I’m a dreamer, and generally a happy person.

You are making do with the hand you were dealt.....good for you.

I choose the mind. One can always have a measure of control over the the body (eat sensibly and exercise, see your doctor regularly, etc...) But the mind is harder to control. Dementia is scary and heartbreaking.

I agree...good choice IMO

Keeping the body of some 50-year old would take a large freezer. I could keep the mind in a small jar though.

NO question for me -- mind it is.

Good choice....

I’ve seen dementia up close. I’ll take the healthy mind, please. My Dad is 96 and has both. My mom is 91 and has little of either, lost her mind to dementia just in the last few months. It’s pretty devastating for my dad to not have his partner of 71 years, intellectually, emotionally, like that. What good is the body without the mind...

Good point...I think the mind is more important.

The mind comes first and with a little preventative maintenance and care the body should follow along...

I'll go with a sharp mind, hands down. I plan to continue hiking into my 90s.

For his 94th birthday, my friend's dad hiked the Grand Canyon to the bottom and up. It took him four days instead of the usual two days. My hero.

When I saw that you had commented, I wondered if you would pick the body....but you didn't...good choice.

@nicknotes

Thank you.

Neither, I rather be dead if my mind or my body no longer serve me in the capacity that it does today. Yes I know that I will 'slow' down but that is all I am putting up with.

So it's all or nothing?

@nicknotes yes, when the time comes that I had enough it will be the end. I shall make sure of that
