Kansas legislators switching political parties due to moderate stances; I didn't realize they could do that while in the middle of their term(s):

Sure they can. Why not" The fact is that, under Brownback and Kobach, the Kansas Republican party has moved so far to the extreme right that they have become viciously reactionary. Moderate ne moral Republicans in the state are starting to say, "NO. That is not me or an expression of my values. "

I can happen and does for several reasons. One might be simply they want to go with the party or feelings of the day. They don't change their stance much. We had a county councilman (Seattle area) who was running in a conservative area and went as a Republican (he was a Democrat). He knew how to play the voting game (most voters are nitwits) and was in office for 10 years. He was considered the father of the local growth management plan and when one new guy found out about the incumbants true feelings he ran and won.

Yes they can. It has been done in the House and Senate.

I wonder how this goes over with their constituents, those who put them in office?

@Condor5 I have wondered that myself. It is rare, but it has happened.

@Condor5 I am sure they check that before making such an announcement...apparently, she got support from her constituents to do that...plus, on the state level, the parties do not mean as much as the person...I have voted Republican candidates locally because I knew the person better...

Their party left them and the many other moderate Republicans that are considered RINOs by the far right that have taken over the GOP. Also, as the GOP has become increasingly authoritarian / anti-libertarian, I wouldn't be surprised if Republicans that actually lean libertarian (any left besides Amash?) either switch to Libertarian or become independent.

Yeah I agree they should’ve moved to libertarian but as long as the majority of voters are conditioned to only accept the two party system representatives like these two won’t switch because of the chances of not getting re-elected due the amount money and media recognition that the other two have is just too much.

And besides the Clintons pretty much made the Democratic Party into the moderate Republican Party anyway so it really isn’t that much of a leap to begin with. ?

Sort of a sad day when conservative values once served by the Republican Party means changing to the Democrat Party...which also speaks to the failure of the Democrat Party to serve the values of its constituents....this will be interesting to watch

Blue Dog Democrats are nothing new.

@AlPastor Thanks!

@thinktwice You're welcome. Now let's see if the liberals create a party purity test and run them out as DINOs. LOL

@AlPastor Seems like we almost need to start all over...the parties have changed so much since their inception and even over the last 50 years or so...I really don't want those labels anymore myself...no one is who they say they are anymore...their policies and ideals don't match what comes out of their mouths...
