Agree with John—you have to report this person to the police, regardless who it is and their relationship to you. Because this person who treated you so badly will just go on to do it to someone else who is unsuspecting. I hope that you and your beloved are able to get past this. When you trust someone to treat you and your property decently and they don't, it's a kick in the teeth. Have experienced something similar in the past. You live, and then you learn.
