Another irony is that we wanted that wall down so that we could end the Cold War but now we want another Cold War ?

We don’t want another cold war, we (average citizens not tied to the military industrial complex) thought we’d be dealing with another European democracy. I remember the joy! Instead, it’s back to a Czar or Dictatorship.. Same with China…

@Varn Well the way that the media and has portrayed our relationship with Russia it has pretty much reflected the old mentality of the Cold War.

And maybe one day we’ll learn to accept the fact that certain countries and societies require a dictator style leadership because of their ideologies towards weakness.
Just saying that our desire to destroy the strong male persona will one day backfire and a country like Russia or China will walk in like Germany did France in the 2nd world war.

But why not most people are already comfortable with being boot heeled by corporations so what’s another one gonna hurt?

@48thRonin Mikhail Gorbachev remains a hero of mine, I hope history credits him with more than ..reagan. Putin is a monster, but one HRC would have kept in check, and did.

The media has polarized, to no one’s benefit. I’m sure their corporate backers feel a slice of the pie is plenty, so forget balance, or the truth - just feed your branded viewers..

It does appear many nations are not ready for democracy. Iraq was a good example, Saddam Hussein was a murderous tyrant, but it quickly became apparent ..that’s what the region needed. Now the US tries to play the enforcer … with one arm tied behind our back..

It remains a struggle, but I think regulated democracy, global unity, and the connectedness of ‘the internet’ can keep the enlightened nations one or two steps ahead of the dictatorships. But the US had better lead with a better example.

I don’t think people are all that comfortable … but much like the former soviet union, if you keep them stressed, seeking what they need, or in this nation - what they’re told they need, they haven’t the time or energy to fight back..

@Varn Well I do respect your opinions but I don’t believe that Putin is everything that our media and a certain political party has made him out to be his people are actually thriving but we need an enemy so it will be what it is.
