If we don’t address world overpopulation we will suffer severe consequences eventually!

A problem I didn't see addressed directly in this article is the problem of political shift of power because of declining population growth. Years ago I read an article that talked about Muslims becoming a huge influence in Europe because they were filling the gap left by the declining birth rate of the Europeans. More recently, there was the big upset sparked by the increasing percentage of Muslims in Norway. Muslim men felt that the way Norwegian women dressed and conducted themselves was excuse to rape them and rape of Norwegian women by Muslim men was becoming a huge problem. Population control can only work if every single population is on board. Unfortunately, what seems to be taking place is some of the more unsavory populations are producing the children and therefore gaining the upper hand. I don't really want a culture that oppresses women to be in charge.

I personally am more inclined to allow fate to play out. At the moment, we are producing enough to feed the population of the world. Hunger problems are due more to political issues than lack of supply. If there comes a time when we truly don't have enough, nature will run its course and the population will be reduced through natural means. Or a plague or whatever will happen before that and reduce populations. It's horrific but it's what happens.

I feel people should feel free to have however many children they want without worrying about some future, gigantic problem they personally have very little control over. This is because first of all, an attempt to forestall a possible problem in the future has created very real problems in the present. And secondly because we can't actually control all the population so once those who are trying to do so have reduced themselves to insignificant numbers, the ones who aren't honoring that goal will just keep having kids and be the ones to fill the earth to capacity.

I'm sure you have heard of carrying capacity? In the early 1970's, there was a ZPG ( zero population growth) movement. It was based on the idea that planetary resouces were limited and the Earth was approaching its absolute carrying capacity.

In our society it was an unnecessary movement for the mainstream. Because of increased affluency in society, mlarried couples were reducing the number of children they chose to have. Part of this was a desire to enjoy the affluency they had attained. It was a selfish self-regulation.

Meanwhile some populations still continued to have ample children (e.g. Mormon, Catholics, etc). Outside the US, most populations still believed in large families (except the truly affluentin any population).

We now have 7 billion humans on the planet. We have disrupted every single biome and habitat on the planet. Increased proximity and poor sanitation will eventually provide the environment that hosts a deadly virus that is beyond our ability to react to it in time. Due to access to any part of the globe in a relatively short time frame. It will migrate worldwide in a short period of time and be unstoppable. Then and only then will true population reduction occur.

I don't think we're going to go extinct because of it.
