Though my beings are indeed advanced, we don't control the world. Mainly because all of my beings are antitheist atheists. But some day that will change, and we will be running the world. Just not this world, because Earth is a lost cause. Our next home will be run very differently.

republicans, the group that keeps being ignorant no matter what!

Religion and the Right have a whore/pimp relationship where each uses the other to achieve an end. Religion aligns with the uptight conservatism of the Right and the Right pushes policies that align with the goals of Religion. It's to the mutual benefit of both to keep the public ignorant and distrustful of science because science promotes critical thinking which benefits neither group.

The analogy also works as a parasite/host relationship. Either way you look at it, nothing good comes from the pairing of these two groups.

It’s the chasm of difference between ‘rural’ and ‘urban’ dwellers.. If it weren’t for our cities, we’d be the educational equivalent of three centuries ago… It’s terrifying! And the more complex society becomes and the closer our links with other cultures - the faster and further our religious population runs toward yesteryear ~

I do see some level of correlation in that rural towns often have a much less diverse population and often do not offer the resources to learn about other ideals and beliefs. However i don't see that as the only or even the definitive hurdle faced by rationally thinking people. I grew up in and eventually moved back to a small cow town. I remember trying to find books at the library about other beiefs. Ancient cultures. All that. Once I learned of the existence of people who believed in many gods I was curious as a cat with a closed box. But I could only ever find a few mythology books of the most common sort and a few vague references to other ways of thinking. I eventually had a friend who lived in another country start sending me things from his cultures past. From there I found other venues that supported a wider variety. In short, I do feel that this knowledge would have been much more difficult to obtain, where it not for large cities, but where there is a will there is a way. And I am a stubborn little byrd. I would have sniffed it out eventually one way or another. Even being from a rural area cannot stop those who truly seek knowledge. We are just harder to spot. ?

@Byrd I also wonder if, in deeply ‘churched communities,’ the followers are taught early ‘not to question.’ Then upon entering public school (as few can afford anything private), they’re so well trained ‘not to ask questions’ that their motivation for learning is stunted?

My ‘country raised’ daughters never fit, thus couldn’t wait to escape.. Their tiny network of ‘thinking friends’ were vastly outnumbered... One, finishing college in the big city, was joyous - “These are my people” she proclaimed! “No camo, carhartt or chew around here” she followed up!

I’ve now seen both, I was born in her ‘new city,’ though now prefer the country ..to the point, that’s where I’m at… What I find telling, is when stating an interesting observation, ‘in town,’ people get it. In the country, they appear puzzled by spontaneous thought. Not you, though - keep it up 😉

I see a huge deficit in understanding how government is supposed to work, which I fear bodes Very poorly for the future

John, my grandpa used to say, "Empty vessels make most noise". As in these are a very loud and vocal MINORITY. To people not in USA, it can appear alarming. Believe me though, the vast majority of Americans are sensible pragmatical people.

I used to think that...since 2016, nope!

"the vast majority of Americans are sensible pragmatical people."

I don't believe that any more.

If I had to guess, I'd say about 35% of Americans fall somewhere on a spectrum of sensible and pragmatic. I'd say about 35% on the other end are neither sensible nor pragmatic. And the 30% in the middle are a mixed bag.
