Just enjoying my 1st shot of Glenlivet scotch (single malt) in, probably, 10 yrs.
B /c of my heart I need to be very careful with alcohol & usually just stick with craft IPAs.
Recently finished a bottle of good American whisky (Makers Mark) & must admit that I enjoyed the MM a little more than the scotch. The MM is the smoothest whisky i've ever tasted.
I just drink whisky neat with 1 ice cube.
Any whisky coinesseures out there.
Excuse the spelling. Been pecking away on my phone with 1 finger & no spell check for the last 9 wks or so.

I live within the Speyside area and there are over fifty distilleries within a radius of thirty miles or so.The whiskies vary greatly and one of my favourites is Ardmore port wood finish. I also like Talisker from Skye which has a slight smokieness but not so extreme as the Islay malts. I am just back from the USA where I sampled a few Kentucky bourbouns. Very palatable and my palate much sweeter than Scotch.

I used to drink the Bourbons but now prefer Makers Mark which is a single malt american whisky. It's 90 proof but the smoothest whisky i've come across.

Yes, I love a single malt Scotch. My favorite is Lagavullen, which is on the smoky side.

I think Glenlivet is fairly smoky. Definitely an acquired taste.

@callmedubious Yes, I like it too.

I'm not any part of a connoisseur, but when it's time for a single malt, I like Oban.

I've never noticed it anywhere but if I do i might try a dram.
There's no doubt that scotch is an acquired taste. The Glenlivet does not taste as good as I remember.
But back then I was tossing back doubles with soda water.

Glenlivet is good too. But a friend got me to try Oban, and something about it suits my taste.

Oh dear...no don't say that. Single malt can be yummy

If you were close by I'd invite you over for a drama or 2.
I doubt if i'll buy another bottle of Scotch.
Makers Mark for me from now on. Very sparingly of course.
