To learn about levels and how to gain points:

On your profile under Details, look for the word Level.

  1. To the right of Level, click on your underlined points.

This will take you to the Level page.

You don't HAVE to do anything but die and pay taxes.

@creative51 yeah, trump would shut down the government to make it legal

@creative51 Bill your relatives.

Is there any point in being here if not to “post and do stuff”?

Welcome to the asylum. Enjoy your stay.

It would probably be most helpful to you to read the tutorial that the site provides.

Yes and you gain superpowers with each level! Of course you need to get to level 8 before you get some of the really high powered skills. Us level 8's have been known to regularly do the modern equivilent of water into wine...plastic into wine, as in these small plastic cards you take to the shops!

It sounds like all your powers are wine based. 👍

@Sgt_Spanky hahaha

@creative51 I have the power to cause an annoying rectal itch at will. I'm still working out how to monetize that.

@Sgt_Spanky hahaha not in dry January 😉

@Sgt_Spanky ITS YOU!

We hope that you will want to participate, that's what the Levels encourage. No "have to" about it.

Pretty much, but it's fun!

Sounds fair. I want to participate, but I want all the levels too

@EricLatham93 Up to level 7 goes pretty fast if you are having a good time. Most folks here are smart, witty and engaging so it will not take long.

Yes. No free rides here. But seriously, why would you even join if you weren’t going to participate? So, yes, you get points and move up for doing what you were going to do anyway. It’s a simple concept.

Yes

yes. the idea isn't that you do this to gain points. the idea is that you do this because you find the site interesting, and then the site rewards you with points that let you participate even more, because you've shown that you're into it. the points are not the point (pun intended). participation is the point. if you don't want to post and comment and stuff like that, then what good are the points, anyway?

g

One thing that I find strange is. Why do you get extra points for being the first to comment, surely the only important thing about a comment is its quality, why is when it was posted important ? It maybe that it is to compensate for the fact that first comments end up at the bottom of the page, but so nearly do second comments, and while when the site was young it may have been needful to encourage comments, there are now lots of people commenting. All it seems to do now is encourage some to make quick shallow flip comments.

@Fernapple I agree. Double points for being first and just typing LOL is unwarranted.

@ATDayHiker a lot of people answer their own posts fast just to get the double points! i've been known to post in response to myself when no one else has, but not often, only after a while, and when it seems wiser to do that than simply to edit the original post (or when the time has passed for that).

g

@Fernapple there is no way that anyone would get any points if staff had to determine the quality of a post, and length wouldn't be a good marker because someone could type lololololo for miles and miles. so all comments end up being counted equally, i guess. being first... well, the idea is probably so no one gets ignored. it doesn't always work, and there are abusers.

g

@genessa Yes no extra points for anything except the basic comment would I think be best.

@Fernapple Who will good the quality (well except me!)

@Amisja I did not mean that comments should be judged for quality, only that rewarding early posting encourages poor quality.

However if you are offering to do the job, I think that the offer should be taken seriously, it could really work; imagine a world where Lancastrian culture was used as the bench mark for taste everywhere, that could be the best gift that the planet ever got from the internet. ( Well apart from Yorkshire culture of course, but Lanc's is a good second best.)

@Fernapple erm

Still trying to figure all this out
