I gotta vent about my coworker buddy. I've been putting up posts like this for the past few days now. So I was discussing with him yesterday about my animosity towards Trump because of his treatment of minorities, women, etc. My friend asked for examples (typical conservative move, then try to act like you are willing to change your mind). I then casually told him about the children in cages that trump held at the border. My friend told me he had never heard of such a thing. My jaw dropped right there, and I was (and I said this too) in a state of shock. How can someone who chooses the conservative side (Shapiro, Peterson etc) choose to completely ignore the malevolent behaviour of the right? Needles to say that was the end of our conversation on politics.

Here's the funny thing. I've told him to look up real debates, like Sam Harris v Shapiro to see how easy it is to dismantle their (conservative) talking points, but he's more interested in watching college student protesters getting shut down at Conservative college visits ie Shapiro, etc...

I have a firm rule never debate religion or politics it never ends well

Ignorance is the Republican party's greatest ally.

like some of the cons here, hit and run. give me facts, goodbye.

Well as a fact he states he prefers debates over reading news because...news is opinionated, debates are not. I wish there was an I'm crazy emoji I could put here...

What really sucks is that he only gets his political info from debates. When I tell him that while this is a good start, he must READ arguments on his own instead of just watching debates. An example of his research. Youtubing a ben Shapiro debate at a college where there are many student protesters. I've told him if he likes debates then look up guys like sam Harris and Matt dillahunty and Brian Cox...apparently his interest is NOT in getting both sides of a debate. It really sucks for him...I really hate working in a warehouse...you meet the most ill informed here...

I've asked for him to give me link to certain facts he espouses...his answer is that ben Shapiro states facts...

He most likely knew about it but just claimed it as fake news and dismissed it.

I recall learning shortly after the meme of ‘a child in a cage’ that it had been faked. Though no longer posted on facebook, it’s damage appears to have been done.

‘The cage photo was fake,’ should have been his response. Perhaps followed up by, placing children in holding facilities with adults would have cruel. Or, the new administration's attempt to apprehend and contain all illegal immigrants placed an overwhelming burden on the border patrol’s capabilities… Honest stuff, like that.

But to deny having heard of it, then demand ‘proof,’ with no intentions of respecting a view outside his own ..is their MO. It’s not that these people have been convinced by proof from any source, it’s that they’ve found a source (usually fox) that feeds their desires, their paranoia, until it becomes their mantra..

Pure confirmation bias all the way down.

It’s willful ignorance. As long as it’s not happening to their family they don’t care. This is what I gather from the people I converse with. They claim to be good church going folk.. volunteered after Harvey but when it comes to politics they shut down. If you stole one of their children and put them in a cage, it would be ON I’m sure!

I think selective ignorance and twisting the facts are among the tactics they have to use to justify their continued support of what is otherwise a clearly disastrous tsunami of deceit, corruption and miserably failed leadership.

If Obama wore a tan suit or put spicy mustard on a hot dog the Repubs would scream and shit themselves but no matter what Trump does, they remain silent and supportive. It's sick. Your friend is just another symptom of the sickness. You're safely tucked away in Canada. At least you don't have to live with it.

Ignorant and callous.
