Yesterday was a holiday (MLK day) and today the temperature is so cold, the school wanted to start 2 hours late. Having my kids home means I can't go do what I need to do - setting my schedule back by 2 hours sucks. (I'm a self-employed violin teacher. I had to reschedule 2 students and lost 1/2 a day's income)

I've no concept of this... Attending a military prep school for my HS years. We went to class, or formation, or PT.... whatever the weather. We all managed to survive.... 😉

The practice of starting school late due to weather variations has become a norm in our society. It is based on a faulty impression rather than a physical need. Evidence of the fact it is based on a faulty impression is that when I was of school age, a two-hour delay was never the case and there were no significant negative results.

@HomeAloneSunday Here in Southern Michigan, two-hour delays when it gets below zero are not uncommon in some districts.

@dahermit I don't get the reason for it. It's not like they turn the heat off over night or something...and the buses don't need more time to start.

@celticagent It is a social thing...administrators want to give the impression that they are concerned with safety...despite the non-logic. They are politicians after all, striving to impress parent/voters.

@HomeAloneSunday why are you so rude? I didn't personally attack you. I've tried to be kind in my comments and answers to comments, but you (and several others) have personally attacked me. Why is that?

@celticagent Where did I attack you?

What did you want to do? The more time spent with my kids, the better. But that's just me. I'm speaking from a mother's perspective.

Well, I'm no mother 😉 but I am a violin teacher. I had to reschedule 2 lessons.
