Maybe you could clarify your meaning.
If you're suggesting that religion has only been around for the past 1% of modern human society, I'd want some citations from you on it. As inherent as superstition, confirmation bias and agency inference is to the human condition, and arguably more so in the past than now, I find it hard to argue that religion hasn't been around since well before recorded history and probably in at least crude forms since the very dawn of man.
If you're suggesting that religion is only peripherally important to most humans most of the time, I think an awful lot of humans would beg to differ.
