Precisely. Prayer is saying "God, I know you have a plan, but I really think you need to tweak it a bit, preferably in my favor."

I mean, really, why would an omniscient, omnipresent, all powerful deity give a shit what you thought? Or did, for that matter?

Did the dinosaurs pray? Or Neanderthals? If they did, nobody was listening! Just like now!

I sure worked in war, having God on your side. Think these prayers is all false confidence, wars and wishing too much solves nothing.

I just find prayer to be inherently comical. Some religious putz, hands clasped, head bowed, subjugating him/herself to an invisible, magical being in the sky who isn't real and can't help them yet begging it for help regardless.

It's a person talking to him/herself and taking it so seriously. I think it's funny.

Depends on the type and purpose of the prayer. There is the "not my will but yours be done" sort of "meditative" prayer that doesn't seek to influence events.

Then there is the prayer making petitions which is rationalized by its proponents as god deliberately withholding until requests are received in order to teach us dependence and submission upon him. But that last is just a tap dance to get around the logical problem identified in the above meme. If god is perfect and immutable and also perfectly reliable in fulfilling his alleged promises to look after you, than there's nothing to request. The most you'd need is a prayer, again, of submission -- Lord, I'm trusting you to provide in this situation.

In fairness, some Christians teach this expression of trust and submission is the only legitimate kind of prayer.

I guess in the King's English "pray" more or less meant "wish," so there's prolly some confusion involved there too
