I don't need to believe in a magical beast in order to motivate myself to behave nicely to others or to be a productive member of society
how about you ??
Agreed! The all loving god throwing you into the fire is just another part of the indoctrination designed to control weak people. Doing the right thing happens when you practice integrity in all actions of your life. Integrity boils down to doing what is right whether someone is watching even if you never get credit for it! Your reward is the warm fuzzy feeling you get inside for doing it Fuck what others think they know about you! Its what you know about you!
And those who claim to believe are just not good people for the most part.
I try to be nice, but people bring out the worst of me
I'm generally the 'best person' some people know when it comes to legal and moral behavior. It shocks some of them to find I don't believe one wit of any mythologys nonsense.
Even after seeing the most dangerous beast I still don't need any help with my morals.
I was taught early on, you take care of the tribe and the tribe will take care of you.
That is something important we have lost. In Tonga it is all about family and tribe. You can leave for decades, but when you go back your tribe will still look after you. Much better than our crumby welfare state.
@atheist au contraire, bon ami. It's more important than ever. The big change though is that we now define our tribe as everyone every where.and we use our self-governance to make sure everyone is included.
@atheist Why do you believe it is unrealistic? It worked for 50 years. It made America #1 in almost everything for a very long time.
@atheist You disn't live through the 40s, the 50s, and the 60s, did you? We did take care of each other and it did work and it was a pretty great time for most people. To answer you directly, yes. It's attainable. It's tough to get everyone in the tribe but we came close.
@atheist On this we agree, and this crop of chldren is leading the change!
Never had, Never will. Fuck god and the dragon he rides on.
