You know that question that you ask your history teacher in high school..." Why do we study history anyway and his response is, "those that do not study history are doomed to repeat it" it seems no one ever studied real religious history because fanatics keep popping up not realizing all the atrocities that have been committed by people of faith in the name of their god.

I think you can "study" history but not learn from it. I remember the expression as "Those who don't learn from history are doomed to repeat it." Stupid little quibble. I'm reminded of the Sting song, "History will teach us nothing." I think, unfortunately, many people DO study history and DO study religion, but they often seem powerless to stop the many others who don't. Wise impotence is a deeply frustrating condition. 😟

It is amazing that religion will justify bypassing their doctrine when it suits their needs. Slavery and genocide are examples of their hypocrisies. As for history, well....it's the victorious that get to write that story, and the heroes are always "justified".

That is an excellent point. World history, State history are taught but I don't think there is a curriculum that teaches the history of religion in a way that is factual and truthful. It's my understanding also that history is no longer taught in schools.

where the hell is that school. It may be an elective but tell me it is taught !

My kid had it just last year as a Jr. Her teacher is also an atheist.
