I followed a car the other day that had what was once a pretty good bumper sticker saying subtly that religion was a crutch...

It looked like it had been vandalized...someone tried to scratch through it, etc. It is sad when people feel they need to attack a car bumper sticker...and it is scary as well...

I just had an idea. Put a sticker near by that says: My Other Sticker is a Camera.

I'm not brave enough to advertise my unbelief like that...where I live, theres a very good chance of vandalism or worse. It's one thing to be an "out" Buddhist--people (mistakenly, in my case) think it's a religion, so while you may get consternation for "picking the wrong one", you're less likely (in these parts, IMO) to get the vitriol that is reserved for the godless.

@Beowulfsfriend brave and smart!

@stinkeye_a I know what you mean...my husband had a Darwin fish on his car and lost some students because their parents were offended...

@Beowulfsfriend ha ha great idea!

@thinktwice My friend who teaches German and Latin on line has many home schoolers and he treads a fine line. In his case he is an American (European descent) monotheistic Hindu. We never argue religion as he is open to everything. His story on the woman who taught him is fascinating - she and her husband were communists in the twenties. They moved to Russia and got deported for complaining in 1929. Had they been Russians...…….

@Beowulfsfriend Interesting story! Most of the parents are probably also Republicans and they have less issue with him being a Democrat...He just lets them assume he is Christian...he has even gone to "church" to watch some his students play drums...when they ask why I am not there, he doesn't hesitate to shock them and say that I am an atheist...it confuses them but they don't ask any more questions...life in society is so odd...

In Texas it would lead to punctured tires. But at least someone tired. Kudos

@Mokvon Not in all parts of Texas...I found the people of Austin and Houston pretty open...plus there are over 40 mosques in Texas...like any state. depends...

@thinktwice lol. I agree. The large cities are fine. But even we travel into to country for some great cuisine and some those individuals are batshit crazy. Some really do walk around with guns on their person like gun slingers. And the mosques do not advertise what they are. Or when they get vandalized. I have and agnostic T shirt. I won't wear it out. I just googled this is within a quarter mile of me. Caution is always best.

@Mokvon Oh, I understand! I lived in Killeen...lol...your map looks like a map of the pizza places around my house...ha ha...caution is always best around people with guns...

@thinktwice lol. Where you military? Where you their when the idiot shot up the Lubys restaurant?

@Mokvon no...my Dad was stationed in Killeen when I was a kid..I was last there in 1994...

@thinktwice about 8 years ago a kid in Selma Tx which is suburb of San Antonio. I mean you can't see really separate the 2 except for the road sign saying you are in a different jurisdiction. Anyway was wearing a t shirt that had the traditional jesus on the cross. Well the police officer thought offensive and placed in had cuffs and walked him into the Walmart to get people to file a complaint so that about the shirt...luckily a local new crew caught it on tape. Don't even know how the story played out.

@Mokvon If I recall, it was not of Jesus...it was Jesus grabbing a naked woman by the breasts...it was a band t-shirt...Cradle of Filth...Selma also had another t-shirt incident as well...I think it was related to football and rape culture...yeah, Selma is not somewhere I would want to live...

@thinktwice What jesus was doing was incidental to the fact that and officer felt it necessary to cuff the kid and look for people to complain about it so as to arrest him. If someone remotely educated did that bullshit. You can only imagine what the hoi polloi might do. It can be worrisome.

@Mokvon Very worrisome....we are having problems here in my city with local police harassing people of Hispanic descent...but, I saw they are providing training and education since our governor is having none of that bullshit in our city...a lot of people are making sure they follow through to stop it before it gets out of hand...it is only a few bad cops...
