I don't hold anyone to any expectations. It's easier to accept someone and it makes it just as easy for them to be their true self.

I know who I am and what I've accomplished. I'm content with that.

Sad, but you are probably correct. Lower expectations might result in less disappointment. But my expectations of myself will never be lowered - I demand a minimum level of performance of myself!

Shoot, my expectations were reset to a bottom level when I almost died of cancer while escaping Thailand four months ago. Now I'm thrilled when when I reach such milestones as taking a short walk, or walking into the hospital for an appointment without having to use a wheelchair.
