Yeah, medication fo9r hypothyroid does get abused for weight loss purposes, but it also can mess with the endocrine system if you take it and don't actually need it to maintain thyroid levels.

@snytiger6 I lucked out, they gave me meds to slow it down and my body reacted really quickly to the meds. I haven't had any issues since. That was almost 20 years ago.

My mom is one of 15 siblings, 10 are women and all but one has thyroid issues (the one that doesn't is so strung out on drugs she may very well have it but just doesn't take care of herself). Needless to say, it runs in the family. One of her sisters had the same experience I did.

@Marcie1974 My mother and one sister had hypothyroid (low thyroid), and I also have a sister who had hyperthyroid (high thyroid).. I myself have always tested right next to the low side of "normal".
