Recently diagnosed hypothyroidism here. I also recently went back on antidepressants. Fellow hypo's, got any tips or advice for me? This is a new world for me personally. I haven't ever taken medication like this before.

I was told to take a B Complex Vitamin with C - that for some reason if you have Low Thyroid you don't retain enough B Vitamins without a supplement. (You need the C to absorb them btw). I'd ask your Doctor as opinions may vary on this.

Sometimes fluid retention can go hand in hand with Hypothyroidism. So be aware to watch for that. If you always have ring around the ankle for a long time after removing your socks - point it out to your Doctor. πŸ˜‰

Hope they get you on the proper dose and you'll feel so much better soon. When they finally put me on medication is was a rapid turn around.

I’ve been on treatment for severe hypothyroidism since I was 16. Take your medication or in my case, I have to take two.. exactly as prescribed. Check your blood work every three months. As everyone has mentioned it’s very easy easy to gain weight as it effects metabolism. Watch your diet and get plenty of exercise.

My metabolism has been scary slow for the past year, I am hoping this will help regulate it again. I never had trouble losing weight until my thyroid started to go

@O_ophelia it takes about six weeks for levels to come back up. I’ve been on this bus for more than thirty years.

Same here, just the weight gain and the other effects of hypothyroidism. It treats it well but does nothing for the weight gain.

Has it changed your energy levels? I want to exercise but I just can't do it because I feel like death.

@O_ophelia The meds will restore your energy levels.

@O_ophelia yes...

Been on levothyroxine for years with out much problem. For me, it has been the most straightforward thing to treat.

My mom was put on it when she was around the age I am now, but she doesn't really like to talk about it. Did you experience any negative side effects?

@O_ophelia Nope. There were occasions when a switch in the generic manufacturer required a bit of adjustment, but it was always a minor tweak. Now that I think of it, the first doc I was seeing when my thyroid tanked was not up to date on the proper ranges of thyroid hormones and undermedicated me, When I told him I was still very tired, he said it was my lifestyle. Needless to say I fired him. My new doc was an endocrinologist and she doubled my dose. Most docs should be able to handle something like this. I think at the time, the opinion on the acceptable ranges had recently gone through changes. Being an endo, she was more informed.
