Not sure what you're referring to. Is it the reference involuntary servitude? Unfortunately there are some who should not be out in society. I agree there are abuses however I'm not qualified to comment on our justice system. Just haven't had any experience in it.
I would suggest that diminishingly few people should be kept away from society. Any non violent criminal should be treated differently. Forcing anyone into unpaid labour as a consequence. Is wrong, likely to increase their anger and perpetuate criminal activity.
@Amisja Okay, I just need to feel that if trump (individual one) is found to have conspired with Putin, shared state secrets, and profited by laundering Russian and Saudi money through his Real Estate dealings will suffer. Can we make an exception?
@rogueflyer I think he encouraged violence which is as bad
@Amisja Maybe not "as bad" but certainly part of his whole despicable package.
you should research our criminal justice system it is archaic and fundamentally flawed.Though the 13th amendment freed slaves it has a loophole effectively stating that any American duly convicted of a crime can be into servitude. In 2019
United States has the most prisoners in the world. There are prison corporations that not only house prisoners but they are also leased out to companies to make products or provide a service. If these prisoners are paid it's never nothing more than a dollar hour. There is so much more to it that you should find out. It's no way we are the freest nation in the world when our prisoners are slaves. Our prisoners should have programs, schools, drug rehabilitation and job training if they are non violent. If they are violent I really don't know what to do but I know forcing them work for free is wrong.
@june After hearing all the comments above I better understand the point. I believe the private prisons placing prisoners into servitude is a flaw in the 13th amendment.
