This morning's hike I saw collared peccary, bobcat, and coyote tracks, plus Merriam's kangaroo rat burrows and tracks.

I moved here to Albuquerque when I left Thailand after teaching there since 2010. I had lived in Durango, CO, four years in the early 80s, but this area has different critters.

I saw bobcat and coyote tracks yesterday, but the wind was gusting hard this morning, and all I own are jogging suits. I wore two hooded tops but they barely strained the wind.

Luckily, my Amazon trekking poles were delivered last night, so, having one in each hand kept me steady in high wind and almost vertical inclines.

The sand was alive with tracks..including collared peccary, bobcat, and coyote. Like the black jaguar former pet escapee that frequented our farm in Kentucky used to do, I saw that the bobcat had walked on top of the tracks I made yesterday.

I loved the cute little Merriam's kangaroo rat burrows, but the wind was sandblasting my face with sand, so I didn't loiter, and was back home in an hour.

Pics: peccary tracks, Merriam's kangaroo rat burrow and tracks, trail from my cul-de-sac down to the valley river bed.

Great pictures. I remembered after reading your post that the sand in New Mexico was a pain. I got everywhere inside the house and pitted the windshield of our car, looking through the glass one could see rainbows reflected in the glass.
