My "fav" story...they liberated all the minks at a mink farm, ignorant of the Fact htat minks will Always fight to the death unless mating. So they opened all the cages, and the minks slaughtered each other.
One Huge way you can "help" animals is by learning a bit about them. Before you ASSume you are "helping". Otherwise profound ignorance is, as always, harmful!

I think PETA is BS. There was a video where a spokeswoman said PETA want's "complete animal liberation". So your cat fluffy that stays in your house, always has food, water, clean litterbox, you buy them toys, and cat condo's... has a far better life than they would outdoors... don't want you to have one. At least that's the way the speech made it sound. It would kill my cat if she had to be outside. Literally 90%+ of the time when I am here, she is right by me. Unless she is eating, going to the litterbox, or sleeping, she is by me. She loves me so much that when I need to go to the bathroom, she is waiting by the door. She won't stop purring and talking. When I sleep she is always by me. She purrs so loud in her sleep that it keeps me up. Wouldn't trade her for anything.

Typical of any extremist organization, PETA/HSUS want to liberate the animals, and end any animals being "controlled" or "enslaved" by humans for any reason. That includes the animals that enrich our lives, animals that enable some people to live independently, animals that help us to understand the physics of medical procedures or searches for cures... They don't care what we need or want, they simply want our world to be THEIR way. Very much like religion in their mindless pursuit of indoctrination and domination of anyone who believes differently than do they.

@Rustee I do understand that some of the lab testing is brutal, and that I would say has to go. But "enslaved"? I treat my cats better than a half ways decent parent would treat their kid! Control? You don't have much control over if a cat wants to jump on the counter. As a cat guardian, I can tell you that it is not your house. It's theirs, they are just nice enough to let you live there!

I only have one cat currently. There was a stray that I would put out scraps for. One night it was very cold, and I heard her crying. I opened the door and she came in. Never left. She has almost 0% desire to go back outside. Every once in a while she will follow me outside. Literally about 95% of the time when I am at home she is within 3' of me. All the time. If she could speak human, and you ask her if she wanted to stay inside with me, or be back outdoors. She'd say "I stay with hooman. He my forever hooman".

@TheGreatShadow -Therein lies the problem: people such as PETA & HSUS do not understand the precious bond humans and (some) animals have. They think having a "pet" is an "enslavement". Life itself is evolution, and our pets and companion animals have evolved to be perfect for our relationships, but could not survive if "set free"... I love my pets! My breed is known as being "Comfort Spaniels", and they helped me through a lengthy and caustic divorce. I cannot imagine having done nearly as well if I hadn't had those furry love-bugs to comfort me!

PETA and HSUS are equally reprehensible terrorist organizations, and are disguised at caring about animals. What BS...
