I was put on a 6 week LOA because I got sick and returned and got laid off yesterday. There is a new CEO who thinks my boss can do what I was doing without the expense of a coordinator. So depressed and scared. I haven't been here long enough for unemployment insurance. I'm going to my brother's today to use his computer..printer..scanner to update resume and apply for jobs. I have a laptop but it's crappy and more comfortable to write at his desk. Also there is a dog there and I don't want to be alone today. Sis in law said i should stay the night..she works near my apt so i can leave in am with her and save uber expense. I loved that job.

too many having to experience your plight. which makes me wonder about the economy.
good luck.

Who knows... anybody could be next - this may be the first wave. My brother and sis in law told me same thing is happening in their jobs and they are scared too. Sis works for a big bank and Bro works for a University. Sad. I think the low employment rate figures are misleading. I don't qualify for unemployment insurance ( 2 weeks short of minimum time of service) so I am not counted in those figures and wasn't counted when I arrived and first started looking. I see a lot of homeless here - there was always a lot in NY - there was a huge amount in Austin TX..... I don't think economy is as good as they say.

Don't be discouraged, keep looking.

Sorry that you live in such a country that doesn't look after its own and doesn't care about what happens. I do hope that you will get a job very soon that you like.

Totally legal. No recourse.

@Dandewine I am so sorry. I am sure you'll find something else. I think your family are right, stay around people until you heal a bit.

Ack! That is a good way to disguise being a bag of dicks.

I'm glad you have a dog and nice people for a bit of moral support. Scary as this is.

I hate a J.O.B. Because employment sucks. When I got laid off for the third time (at the age of 30), I said to hell with working for somebody else. Since then and all the way through to retirement, I was self-employed. I already had a specialty and I kept developing it so that my services were in demand, and I was independent of being somebody's wage slave. I told my wife-at-that-time that I would go down and suck dicks at the bus station before I took another job. Just for the record, I've not ever sucked one as of now. So yeah, self-employment is up and down, but I wouldn't do it any other way.

As much I love sucking dick I don't think I want to do that for a living. However, I applied to my local supermarket and the many businesses in walking distance ( I don't drive - I was ubering to work) because I will take anything until the right opportunity comes a long. I don't have funds to start my own business...unless of course it's sucking dicks. Don't need much start up for that. LOL. I did own my own business in NYC and I was bad at it. It was a retail pet supply store and we did animal rescue and adoptions. I was great at adoptions and customer service etc but I gave away too much stuff...was too competitive with larger chain stores that I realistically could not and my prices were too low... it lasted 3 years ( during which I also worked another job) but the lease was up I closed it and didn't renew because I knew I couldn't keep up much longer and it would be unfair to landlord to sign a new lease and have to break it. That was the second saddest day of my life.

@Dandewine Self-employment has its downsides, for sure. Naturally, all of your customers and would-be customers try to finagle you down in price. Then after you bill them, you have to nag and nag them to get paid. It helps when they really need your services on-going. That gives you the power to say "No tickee, no laundry."
