My current grammar pet peeve is people who don't know how to use the word "myself" properly, but overuse it anyway.
Seriously you make me want to choke yourself.
What annoys you the most grammatically speaking?
myself hates this post. actually, right now, it's posts by a particular person on facebook. she will write an entire paragraph, with no punctuation. she's super sweet, and super religious. she also spells praying, "prayring". she's almost 47 and seems like she barley graduated middle school. i cringe every time i see one of her posts.
This is right down my alley.
Myself, like, I literally like ... fuck, you know. Let me start the fuck over. Fuck, sorry, I did that on accident. Thanks for you're fucking patients. I'm just fucking saying.
Most people notice the overuse of words like "literally" or "like" but the biggest epidemic in our language is definitely the ones I mentioned above.
People overuse "the" constantly. A couple examples:
"We used to go to t̶h̶e̶ church"
"I used to be a member at t̶h̶e̶ U.S. Bank on Front Street."
Same for "that," arguably the most useless word in our language.
She said t̶h̶a̶t̶ "my milkshake brings all the boys to the yard."
"I hear t̶h̶a̶t̶ Mama Jean has the best pork chops this side of the Mis'sippi."
Any verb of speech or thought, you can get rid of it.
But even in non-bridge verbs, it can be gotten rid of. Many grammar writers disagree, saying it sounds better in certain situations. I disagree.
"The CDC confirmed t̶h̶a̶t̶ there were mass casualty reports. It's expected t̶h̶a̶t̶ the zombie uprising will begin soon."
There are many other examples, but I'm already getting annoyed thinking about it.
STOP IT, MERICA.
I get that "I'm wanting to" is one of the phrases that annoys me too. I want to never see it again.
"Just saying" = weasel words.
Urban Dictionary definition:
"There is an obvious implication of what I just said, but I formally disavow that implication, although I actually believe it."
Guys loudly using the F-word in every sentence are crass morons.
"Literally"
"Like"
"You know."
Like, your profile name literally contains the word “literate”, you know.
Sorry, I couldn’t help myself ?
I fuckin like cuz... like... you know.
Especially when it's like, I literally fucking died.
No unfortunately, you did not.
@Mortal
HIlarious! In a word: YES.
