I hate going to the supermarket for oh so many reasons!

-- The PA system blaring out bad music, commercials, and staff orders

-- Holding me up on the checkout line while they read the receipt to mispronounce my name and tell me how many points I've earned, or try to give me coupons or game cards.

-- Narrow aisles blocked by staff filling the shelves or whatever

-- Filthy shopping carts and baskets. Maybe clean them once in a while?

-- Motorized shopping scooters that block the aisles and shelves, especially when they start backing up. I'd like to know what percentage of perfectly mobile people use them just because they're lazy?

The latest scam is lots of products with really great looking prices that say on the fine print "when you buy 5 or more" and they don't even show the single item price! I've been caught by this once when I only took one of the items and when I got home found that I was charged more than normal.

This is why I far prefer shopping online!

I can do some shopping on line, otherwise it's a necessary evil. I am not a shopper.

A lot of stores now let you go online and order all your stuff, they get it all together and you let them know when you want to come pick it up. I know the Kroger's and HEB stores here do this. It's just an additional $5 dollar charge.

Walmart is free (though I have other concerns with them...) and Shipt is only $10 or $15 and they bring it to your house! We live in the future.

I will speak to your motorized cart concern, though. Before I had my ankle replaced I physically couldn't walk through the store. I'm sure that a lot of people thought I was just fat and lazy, but in fact, those motorized carts saved my kids from going hungry when my ex couldn't be arsed with running to the store for us.

Obviously I wouldn't criticize anyone who needed to use them due to injury or disability.

@jerry99 sometimes you can't tell just by looking.

I don't shop at the grocery store. All of the stores near me either have pick up or delivery. You enter and pay for your groceries online and they email or call if something is unavailable. It is divine. Saves time and hassle and money (no/less impulse purchases).

These options create jobs and reduce stress. Win/win.

I always use self-checkout and small carts. Much faster.

Small carts are more maneuverable.

Yeah, me too. I usually grab a basket or a couple of plastic bags if there are none.

My local supermarket is mostly fairly empty and lovely and clean. I hate self checkouts because they do folk out of a job.

I'd bet it's different if you go shopping in London. I far prefer self-check, except when the machine can't make out the bar codes. I'm really focused on getting in and out as quickly as possible and hate when the checkout clerk wants to chat about one of my purchases.

It's not a very good job. We used to have to wait for some clown to fill up the gas tank. Now we do lots of simple things like that ourselves. Hopefully the people doing those jobs can get training and find some better way to earn a living.

@jerry99 I don't live in London and people need jobs round here. Not everyone can be an IT bod
