I'm sitting in a restaurant waiting for my food. I was feeling down and lonely today, but then imagined all the complications of a relationship. Im so confused. Anyone else? Or as usual, I'm the weirdo?

Why would that make you weird ? And what if you are - so ?

Confusion is rampant - almost a human condition.

Good to be in a relationship , and good to not be in one. Universal conundrum !

I was 17 when I met my wife-to-be. I was married for a little over 25 years. Divorced in 1998. I am very confused -- my dating skills are null and void.

No relationships require give and take and if one doesn't play by these rules it is better to end it. Married 60 years and love it.

Pros and cons to both. And nope you are not a weirdo.

Good for you...for getting out of the house; for being brave enough to eat alone in a restaurant. I also have mixed feelings about being alone (I have been a widow for ten years.) There is a certain amount of freedom and a certain amount of loneliness. I make it a point to do something that involves getting out of the house each day. Meeting people helps with the isolation. I have met many nice people at various plays, classes, walks at parks, at the gym, etc.
I take time to enjoy the fact that I can make scrambled eggs for dinner whenever I want (and get up at 3:00 in the morning and play my guitar.)

I'm sorry for your loss, but I love your outlook on life! ?

I hear you. I can be ok with eating alone if I have to, but I get really tired of eating alone almost all the time. Does that make sense? I don't feel weird eating alone at a rest., but I really enjoy it when I do get together with a friend to eat out. It breaks up the monotony and loneliness.

It's been longer than I can remember since I felt weird eating alone at a rest., because I've been doing it without my late wife for over 5 years now.

I am sorry for your loss. Good for you for getting out of the house and going to restaurants.

We are complicated, JenAnn. You can be complicated by yourself or with company, just have to make your choice. We are wierdos and not, depending on our mood...

Not weird at all.

I always take a book to read when I eat alone in a restaurant.

You are not a weirdo.

More Americans Are Single Than Ever Before—And They’re Healthier, Too.

"In 2017, the U.S. census reported 110.6 million unmarried people over the age of 18—that’s 45.2 percent of the American adult population—carrying out their lives to a new set of societal norms. Are unmarried Americans doomed, or onto something truly exciting."

I'd like to believe the latter! And I am healthier. So theres that. Ok. Thanks! I kind of feel better now. ?

@JenAnn

You are welcome, dear. You are not alone.

Orange County is not the friendliest place either.

It's certainly hard to find another like mind here in a county of maga hat wearers and bible thumpers.

Nah you're not weird. You just gotta appreciate it. Being in a relationship is complicated, but you do seem to miss it. Well, when you're in a relationship, you're gonna miss being alone some.

So fuck, eat alone, go enjoy a movie, netflix and chill yourself, or whatever while you're not in a relationship so you can have some fond memories.

i reckon i cherish the simplicity while it lasts.

It has lasted for 8 years. I'm over it. ?

Or not. Ok...still confused. ?

@JenAnn 15 without too much interference. I hear you.
