On my way to work this morning I saw a “drive up and get your ashes” services in honor of ash Wednesday. People were holding up signs advertising this service like it was a car wash in the parking lot. I don’t know, it seems a bit cheesy. Short on time? Why not just drive up and have a priest rub ashes on your head, bless you and rejoin traffic on your way to work. Easy, convenient, with no hassle of finding a parking spot and a pew, and without the drone of sermon. And religion is diminished to convenience in one fell swoop. Pfft, not that I care, just that I noticed.
