I seem to have distinctly separate moods and music seems to show their contrast more sharply! Just now, I seem to be in a ‘down state,’ not depressed, but not on solid footing! So when I hear loud, contrasting notes, I feel ‘jarred,’ apart. As if my broken pieces, are flying into a million little pieces! Then, I think...this must be a ‘generation gap’ thing and I am completely removed from what seems to be music for the young! I never feel a disconnect with classical music, except maybe ‘high opera!’ What experience does music play with your moods?

listen now almost exclusively to classical. but now & then go back in time to decades when i was young, even a child. however, every now & then i come across something current that i enjoy. mainly b/c of the guitarist.

That is very close to what I prefer!

I used to listen to music all the time but prefer silence more now. I used to live closer to public radio signals and heard a lot of jazz and that could work all day. WHere I am now it is country and country hispanic . I might listen more again if there were other options

that said a musician friend shared a link just after I read your post. I am listening to Larry Mitchell now.

I used to have music blasting anytime I drove anywhere. Now, it's just noise. I drove from Pennsylvania to Florida awhile back, Then from Florida to Nashville,TN, then from Nashville back to Pennsylvania. Only had the radio on the entire trip about 15 minutes, and it was annoying. I'll turn on a CD in my house, and suddenly realize it's grating on my nerves, and off it goes. I think it depends on my mood and what I need to concentrate on. Have been very unsettled the past year and a half.

I have had similar experience, driving the 1500 miles back to Ga! Actually, I have learned to love silence! Does not bother me at all! Lol

Depends on what I'm listening too..EDM really jolts me to move..most C&W makes want to slit my carotid arteries..

I know some other music that effects me the same, too! Lol

Music is an immensely emotionally powerful factor that I use regulate mood. There are abrasive sounds many classify as "Music" that I find nothing more then noise pollution in need of mitigation. For me, great music can bring tears of sorrow or joy, from cold loneliness to warm, enveloping compassion. I've used music to escape darkness and when there is too much light, descend into the calm darkness of solemn rest.

Great analogy...some music causes me to wonder if certain parts of my brain cells, are twisted! Lol

@Freedompath I would classify such reactions as being rich enough to fully appreciate the beauty and power of music. Not all share this ability.

@NoMagicCookie apparent-ly!

Some nights I'll come across a song that so speaks to what I'm going through, and that leads to another song and another, and another on youtube. I'll sit back in the chair and weep and eventually feel comforted. And realize 2 hours have gone by while I was immersed in the music.
