Old Science fiction makes for pretty good reading too. It's bad science by today';s standards, but great imagination considering what was generally known when they were written. Try reading some Jules Verne.

Unfortunately sometimes as in the case of 1984, the powers that be took one look at it and said, "Hey great idea, now how can we convince people to want those telescreens in the homes?"
