it took me decades to realize that I am an atheist. I now feel that the world would be a better place without people believing that their mythology is the only true mythology and others' beliefs should not be tolerated. It's so sad that so many have suffered and died because they are discriminated by others whose mythology does not match their own.

I'd have to disagree due to human nature. We'd still have wars, there would still be conflict, and there would still be people attempting to control how people think. Another question is, how do you fight an ideology?

Most of the wars throughout history have had religion as their root cause or just excuse. If religion were not there, society and the world would be so much better off.

History is full of instances of not just religious persecution but religious genocide where people were killed just because they were of a certain faith or religion. Look at the jews history. Look at the muslims killing other muslims because they from a different sect. It's insanity run wild that been going on for too long. You're absolutely right the world would be a better place without religion.

True believers cannot do that. Due to their own decisions, those beliefs form the core of who they are now. To admit that their religious beliefs are false would destroy who they think they are and the false sense of certainty they feel about their beliefs, lives, and "after-life."
