In case you have never seen it, this is what a U.S. Army atheist grave marker looks like:

Thank you for sharing this. I didn't know.

Thank you. One day mine will be adorned by #16 too. ?

I wonder if I can have, a pacifist that didn't want to be here in the first place put on the stone. ?

They would be covered as a conscientious objector. Or, now that the draft has long been dead, just never join to start with.

It looks quite elegant to me, my condolences to the Man's family. And a sincere Thank you for having served to the person who is no longer here.

Elegant.

So we are now chemists? Can't they just skip the logo?

No Agnostic symbol.

But there is a symbol right in the middle at the top of the stone. It has the A inside of it and I think it is very well placed and well done. This is in memory of a real freethinker.

That’s bad ass. Happy too see they acknowledge it even though it’s not a belief? More like lack there of

Wow, I did not know that the US military honored or even acknowledged Atheists; this is great to know.

See RPardoe's comment below. He provided a link to a list of over 70 emblems from which the U.S. Army gives its service members to choose.

I, too, am glad to know that the military recognizes all faiths, and even the lack thereof. Anyone who dies for her/his country should be honored with an appropriate marker.

@Piratefish - Absolutely; their religion, or lack thereof, should be acknowledged!

Very nice. Much better than an image of an execution device.

Unfortunately I’ve seen it several times.

Unfortunately?

@Marz Yes unfortunately as a veteran I have seen the headstones of too many other soldiers and especially the ones who have taken their own lives after the fact.

And like it or not atheists are the most common in this category.

I had seen it when checking all the available emblems. This is actually #16 on the list of over 70 emblems. You can see them all at the link below.

Not to distract from this thread, I do note that "Hammer of Thor" is available as is the Wicca pentacle.

The Cohen hands ?????

@48thRonin - is that like Jazz Hands?!?

After seeing the Hammer of Thor, I was slightly disappointed that there's no FSM symbol...

@Rustee No actually like Vulcan live long and prosper ?? Star Trek hands.

@48thRonin Apparently Leonard Nimoy was raised in a Jewish household and had seen the "Cohen Hands" at an orthodox service. For Star Trek, he and Roddenberry decided to add a physical gesture to "Live Long and Prosper" so did use the one handed version. So there is a connection.

That was quite the list. I'd have to look up most of them.

Beats the hell out of the ever-present, over-used cross symbol, for sure.
