@powder Why does that need to be a government function?

@powder AI is a tool just like a car or a computer. it helps humans do things more effectively or safely. It needs to be created and programmed by humans. It needs to be tightly regulated and inspected because humans often have their own self interests in mind when running the government. Or they may have the best of intentions but still have bad ideas about the goals for society. Using AI has the potential to help accomplish goals more effectively but also to mess things up on a much greater scale.

@powder Self running garden, yes, one that orders it's own parts and repairs itself seems a bit silly. Someone builds the garden and gives it those abilities regardless, even if one of those abilities is to learn new things and repair itself.

Also that is a tool for growing things, not making government decisions. Humans could definately use knowledge obtained through AI to make more informed decisions. We can also use it to efficiently accomplish tasks like growing food and organize things like self driving cars, and medicine. Someone still creates it.

Some people try to imagine AI as an some sort of a Supernatural being. Sometimes I think athiests are drawn to that concept to replace religion. I think this way of thinking is a misguided magical way of looking at science.

"Knowledgeable" people meaning the wealthy.

@powder every system is nice in paper, even slaves sounds nice, as the owner should honour and respect the slaves and give conditions for their life, not abuse etc.
The good part of republic is that is limits power, it create check points where any abuse of power can be punished with loose of power or worse. That's is why in any political discussions you must go back to the principles of republic and democracy to understand why the system is like this, if it fits the ideals, and not only look at its immediate intentions.
Give power to the president seems good when you like the guy, not that food even he don't agree with you...
