We read a lot of commentary about how hard it is to be an atheist in the Bible Belt but being a Muslim in China is not so hot either .

Neither is being a Muslim in Australia, UK, US or any other western world.

Or Myanmar or the Balkans, I think when you add it up they're numerically more the victims of religious violence more often than the perpetrators.

From what I've read, it's a disgrace. I think they are being sent to 're-education camp's which seems to be a euphemism for concentration camps. You might as well say you have no civil right to practice a religion.

....or a Falun Gong practitioner. Those folks have it rough.

It is not easy to be any religion in China at the moment, only five religions are tolerated Buddhism, Taoism, Protestantism, Catholicism and Islam, however churches, temples, mosques etc are being fitted with CCTV to monitor sermons and practices for anti government or anti communist content or even for pro communist teachings that place the party secondary to god, one catholic church accused of subversion was closed down by blowing it up, and another was boarded up over night, seized by the local government and reopened as a community centre.
7 Catholic bishops were arrested and replaced by government sanctioned bishops, who when they were told to stand down by the vatican refused as to do so would mean execution, when the church excommunicated the bishops, the chinese government "reinstated them and announced any priest who acknowledged the excommunication would be arrested and their churches demolished.
This before you get in to "re-education" camps set up for Muslims.

In one way religion getting a taste of its own medicine delights me, but two wrongs don't make a right.
What really amazes me is that when faced with these consequences anyone would be stupid enough to stand up and declare themselves to be of a specific religion, instead just shutting up and keeping it private in their own home. But the church has a long history of praising idiot martyrs.
