I understand that screen time should be limited for children. But sometimes I wonder if they are forgetting the fact that many of us spend the greatest part of our adult lives looking at screens. I spend the majority of my work day on a computer. Not saying it's good for kids at all, just wondering if there are skills that are learned that are ignored in all that advice.
Technology is a serious part of any child's future BUT it is not the only part. Make sure they get equal time to make physical exercise a routine part of their life. Make sure they get plenty of social interaction. Make sure they learn to read well and use their imagination. Teach compassion and empathy. Teach critical thinking and problem solving. Teach them about healthy ways to fuel their body and mind. Teach them to question everything! Education should never be one sided, it should be as multifaceted as possible.
From what I’ve noticed, if it’s balanced with physical activity of some sort, it’s fine.. But there appear to be far more obese kids, let alone parents ..than I remember growing up.
My concern with screen time are the empathy-numbing violent ‘games.’
..my concern with ‘exercise’ is competitive sports; compete against themselves if necessary, not others.
But in ‘my country,’ I appear to be in a minority smaller than that of atheists..
I don’t monitor screen time. I monitor their social media accounts and email. My boys use their phones for everything... entertainment, homework and it’s a necessity at school.
If they’re being disciplined they lose data access. If the behavior continues I put their phones in the safe.
