I got a call from my phone provider today. Their customer service number showed up on the caller ID. A computer told me my account had been suspended for verification. I hung up and texted my provider on their app. My account is perfectly fine. I'm a bit shaken by the part where they were able to make the provider's phone number show up.

Your account is just fine because the ones that are calling you are mining for your information. I get these calls all the time. The number they come from can appear as a number of someone you know, or even your own number. (Yes, I have heard of that one.) In most cases the number that called you will be invalid if you call it back for any reason. The numbers used by the scammers are often not real at all.

My experience in this has produced calls that claim my social security has been cut off, or my bank account as well, or that the IRS is wanting to lock me up. The amazing thing is that my phone can in no way be connected with me at all. My name is not connected to any of it and it's like a "throw down" phone.

That's troubling. I wonder not only how they got my number but how they knew who my provider is. A shot in the dark or did they actually know somehow?

I was told my balance was past due on an exercise machine.... I've had it for years and paid cash up front... My "account" is now in collections.... ???

Spammers call me every day about:

My Mastercard account (I don't have one); my medical plan; vacation offers, etc. I hang up and block their number.

No need to block their number. Next time they will call you again from the wide world of numbers at their disposal. I get these idiotic calls and my name can in no way be connected to the phone I use.
