Cognitive dissonance.

I actually like the way Stephen King handles his fictional God (he takes part in certain novels). The characters who pray to him to change things are always in the wrong, it's those who accept their fate as part of the plan who turn out to be the heroes.

The theme of Desperation is, "God is cruel". God sets up the main characters to arrive in the right place to confront something evil, but it's up to them to actually carry through and do it.

That reminds me I'm going to see Pet Sematary next week. Looks like it should be really good. His TV movies were pretty shitty, but he is one of my favorite authors. I'm sure I have purchased more of his books then anyone else's.

@mooredolezal Pretty sure he's written more books than anyone else.

@Paul4747 that is probably true

@Paul4747 actually I just Googled it and he is not even close. And the article was by him! LOL To name just two, there is a Spanish author who wrote over 4,000 novels and John Creasy from England wrote over 500 books.

@mooredolezal Okay, more best-sellers?
More non-romance novels?
More non-westerns?
I realize there are authors who crank out two or three a month. And then there are the authors I suspect of being a pseudonym. And the authors whose novels are 125 pages in paperback. (Many of these categories overlap.)

@Paul4747 if you want to research specifics go ahead. You can categorize anyone into being the most prolific author if you get specific enough as to gendre. I'm just responding to your statement.

@mooredolezal I was being flippant, I don't know specifics.

King takes a long time between books, but he's certainly prolific.

@Paul4747 no question about that.

God's a narcissist. He wants the adulation

I was a narcissist you would think he would get pissed off that his plan was being questioned. He is a vengeful God you know!

@mooredolezal lol He would be pissed off with me too since I think his worshipers are more stupid than dirt. (actually dirt is far more interesting and complex). I think we have all the proof we need. We spit in his face and the vengeful god hasn't retaliated.

@MsDemeanour I wouldn't say that. I don't think intelligence or the lack thereof is the sole metric that should be used in defining a believer's mental state. I believe it is a combination of intelligence, delusion, naivete and being susceptible to brainwashing.

@mooredolezal They're scared of death and want absolution for the bad they've done

@MsDemeanour of course. That is the biggest reason, I can't believe I forgot that! LOL

No god is a fiction and therefore does not have wants, it is his priests who want second hand adulation.

@Fernapple er yes, we are atheists.......we weren't being literal. But thanks for the heads up

@MsDemeanour Yes I know, I was just engaging light heartedly, but it is important to be aware of the huge vanity and self importance of those people all the time.
