Why do you think people need so much to believe in god and religion?

Fear that results from Ignorance.

Biologist, John Wathey says our species is biologically predisposed to believing in god.

So much? There isn't even a little bit of actual proof of any god existing.

I agree. But the fact is that they believe.

My take on that is that it is initially born out of just plain ignorance, for a child, the world generally is a world of magic, cause and effect, logic or science are not part of their world, so they buy into whatever their parents teach them most of the time, but later, it becomes an attempt to replace one's parents, once a person reaches the age where they have left them behind. So generally, the more immature and uneducated a person is, the more likely they will embrace religion.

Everyone may not be able to see this but it is so plain to me. My step dad once told me that if I was correct then he had very little to look forward to. His statement refers to his age and the fact that he believes he will see mom and all his dead relatives when he dies, and his death gets closer all the time. Dreams of heaven are to be a great big reunion to him and they can all worship god forever and ever.

That's the appeal of religion. You die and get everything back if you are faithful. Well, maybe not your dog but the bible does have spirit animals. This is all a great big hope. I saw an Assemblies of God bus yesterday with writing on it that said "a place of hope." We are afraid to die so we hope.

The only proof I find for this nonsense is writings in a book. It gets weaker when you see that there are so many books with these claims but they are all different. Yes they are. Nobody ever came back from the dead and nobody flew to heaven on a winged horse.

I see his point, but how to believe in a good god with so many wrong things in world? Some so rich others so poor? And also with some religious people that are so evil in name of god, so intolerant!!!

So they don't feel so small and insignificant. Most also want someone else in control so they can blame things on "God's will."

Yes, and to fit in the place they live, to be accepted. If they say that they don´t believe in something they are afraid to considered as bad people. And in my opinion because they don't think.
