I'm not a Constitutional historian, but I get the feeling that the Constitution and our Republic has never been challenged this seriously since the Civil War. If we survive Trump and the present incarnation of Republicans, then the Founders truly created something enduring. However. if the right wing is able to turn us into a total authoritarian dictatorship or something comperable, then we've been misled all these years.

The Republican Party Exists to Protect Millionaires and Billionaires

No matter what the framework such as the constitution dictates, if the leaders are corrupt and the voters are uneducated it will not continue to succeed. No human endeavor is perfect. Work and diligence must always be applied.

I think the Constitution is still a good framework but our republic has become corrupt. Our government is now run by politicians bought and paid for by the rich.

Well put. It would have been bad enough to have (almost) elected an egomaniac as President … but to have allowed it with Congress in the hands of evil was ..ignorant beyond description.

With humanitarians back in charge of our House of Reps, we may not implode. But the irresponsible tax cuts, abandonment of environmental regulations, and packing of the Federal courts (alone) will haunt ..if not cripple us for several decades..

And as we fall further behind the enlightened nations, our one-time Allies have learned ‘we’re not to be trusted.’ They loved Bill Clinton - then we dumped two terms of bush jr on them. Everyone with a brain loved Obama - now this! -- with the specter of 6 more years 😕

Anyone still supporting this disgrace deserves the worst, but cowards and assholes that they are ..they’re enjoying taking, not only us - but the world with them…

The GOP is not the party trying to nullify the 2nd amendment, stifle free speech on college campuses, and get rid of the electoral college.

Overstatement on all your points. Overtired talking points that do not reflect reality.

With regard to the Second Amendment, a fair registration and oversight is not nullification.

The First Amendment brings with it responsibilities, which is why it is illegal to yell, "fire" in a darkened theater. A speaker who incites hate and violence and is likely to promulgate a riot is like yelling fire in the theater. The First Amendment does not guarantee all speech without regard to public safety. Are you suggesting and supporting hate speech?

The debate over the relevance of the electoral college is not a dissemination of the government. The electoral college was designed and promugated by the southern states to offset the population difference. The southern states were strictly rural at the time and they needed a way to offset the greater population concentration of the industrial north. This disparity is no longer as pronounced as it was when drafted. If the Founders created something enduring, it can stand the scrutiny and modification to the electoral college.

@t1nick

You ignore the text "Shall not be infringed"

You equate conservatives speakers on college campuses to "hate speech"

The electoral college was a compromise between the populous states and the less populous states in order to get the constitution ratified.

and you claim to be worried about the GOP's attack on our Constitution.

Your hypocrisy is mind-boggling.

@BD66 Infringed is a vsgue term legally until lain out eith soecifics. A reasonable action that protects the public coukd easily be construed as not an infringement so much as a method for maintaining public safety and trust. Your biases are self-serving and generally in a selfish vain.

The largest debate in the campus speech controversy has centered on promgators of hate speech. Conservatives have been denied on occasuon because the greater student their democratic right to say "we don't want them on campus" because of the what the individual spesker was espousing.

Its conservatives who want to shut down the learning process by openly encouraging conservative students to act as spies and snitches when a profesdor tries to explain or present a controversial topic that doesnt equate with white bread and republican view.

Any government or ideology must be able to prove itself at times when new circumstances arise that demand a review. The electoral college system necessitates review and consideration. The south is no longer underrepresented as it was in 1776, that is unless you condider Atlanta, Miami, Orlando, Houston, Dallas, etc. rural populations.
