Calcium Scoring to detect early heart disease?

Has anyone had a screen or gotten feedback from their doctor regarding this diagnostic technique? I am getting screened next week, but have to pay for it as insurance does not cover it (of course). Seems like a fairly innocuous way to get information before the (hidden) condition kills you.

Is this a real doctor or a questionable one? Most doctors Never order tests unless sanctioned by the AMA and insurance.

This is my primary care doctor, who I think is a better physician than most in this state. He had the procedure done as a predictor himself. AMA sanctioned or MD ordered is of little concern to the insurers in GA. This is a test that can tell you early if plaques are forming in the cardiac arteries. I wanted to know as my father's bloodwork, and his father's was fine, but each had very little patency in their vessels. We had to let them have heart attacks to find out, which, IMO, is total bull puckie.
