So it was four years ago today, April 18th, 2015, that I was made the luckiest man on the planet. I don't know my donor's name so I'll just say My Hero saved me from deaths door. Please be an organ donor. Give life from death.

Since my 20s, I have had an organ donor designation on my driver's license.

I am designated as an organ donor

Organ donor here.

1

Glad you're still with us, buddy!

I used to be on multiple donor registries. I can't even donate blood anymore.
I'm really bummed about it.

2

I can't be a donor. I spent two years in Europe (1983-85) during the 'Mad Cow' disease episode, I can't even donate blood and I have O-Neg. The incubation period has long passed but I have a life-time ban.

Yeah Prednisone is a double edged sword. I can't stand myself when I'm on it, but it's necessary at times.
Happy Anniversary! I'm so glad you were able to get the transplant and that you're doing well!
I'm proud to say, I'm registered to donate 👍

I completely agree. Especially about the prednisone. That stuff is
absolutely insidious.

Glad you're still around, causin' trouble.
😉

What's wrong with prednisone? I'm not sure I understand that picture.

@Lutherzme oh, interesting, I have asthma so I've been on short courses for flare ups but can't say I've had a problem other then my heart trying to jump out of my chest. I'm assuming tooth loss means it took longer then 2 weeks?

I was on 60mg of prednisone, daily, for the better part of two years.
It damn near killed me. Didn't save my vision either, so it was pointless to have been on it.

Can I request mine be branded with some kinda satanic symbol? I'd want mine going to someone who's going to thank the doctor not jeebus...

I am leaving my entire body to medical science....they can take anything of use. It won’t be any further use to me. Glad you got the transplant....and hope you are continuing to keep well.

My nephew may be needing a lung transplant in the not too distant future, I'm hoping there are generous people out there... I am a registered donor, not sure they will take my organs now. I can't give blood in the US as I lived in Germany in the early 80s. I could be a carrier or creutzfeldt-jakob disease. Not sure if that applies to organs as well.

i was in germany from 1979 until nov 82 & have donated blood many times since. the mad cow disease must have occurred after 1982.

@callmedubious i was there 85 to 88, so it could be.

I totally agree. Unless they are some type of selfish prick, I don't know why anyone wouldn't want to be an organ donor.

I will say this, my sister was in a coma and Dr's said that she was brain dead and told my parents to pull the plug because supposedly there was no brain activity. In the very beginning first thing they asked them was if they could donate her organs. It was like they could not wait to start cutting her apart. My parents said hell know because this was their 17 year old child. She was in a coma for sometime. My sister is now 31 with a family. Dr's kept telling my parents that there was no chance of recovery. I am glad that I still have my sister and that my parents were not open to donating her organs. If you are ready to be donated make sure that you are truly dead, but I guess there's no way that you would know for sure, because Dr's already know everything.

@Wildgreens I've heard of similar stories unfortunately.

I have been on the register for many years. So long that the little card I have in my valet, just in case something happens looks very tattered.

I'm glad that you were able to benefit from an organ donor. That's the one good thing that came from the death of my former love. I had talked him into being an organ donor and he helped many.
