This morning after my hike up the desert ravine, which was actually flowing yesterday after a night of rain, I saw the male coyote trotting up the mountain and going into the new den..on the hillside just below our yard!
The greater roadrunner chicks just fledged from a sagebrush thicket under the railing, and now a pair of Gambel's quail are nesting there. The next bush over, a pair of curve-billed thrashers are feeding chicks.
The coyotes might be eating garbage in the housing division, but I've seen their tracks hunting white-tailed antelope squirrels down in the desert.
