I finally programmed myself to say salud instead of god bless. So pleased with myself.
"Salud!" was the greeting that the Republican side used during the Spanish Civil War of 1936-1939.( It just means "salute" in Spanish). The Republicans had large numbers of anarchists, socialists, and communists in their ranks, and they thought that "salud!" sounded more 'comradely' than the usual "buenos dios".
I grew up with gesundheit, have used bless you, but now usually stay silent, letting others in the vicinity do the acknowledging. Kinda silly we feel the need to acknowledge an involuntary act. Salud could be useful though.
WTF is "salud"?
A German salad?
Itβs Spanish for health...if I recall correctly
@RegularGuy I knew that...I was just being playful!
