This is definitely what you'd like to do sometimes!
I will say that I'm learning (although am still struggling with maintaining patience) how to engage religious people in conversation that has them questioning their beliefs. I wasn't converted to non religion after one conversation. Seeds of doubt were planted and I realized the stories I was raised to believe couldn't possibly be true. Then I started asking my own questions, until my path to truth was clearly carved out.
The acceptance of one's religion, while offering a line of questioning that holds a position of curiosity, works much better at doing this than treating them like they're stupid or wrong.
