That Sports Illustrated Swimsuit cover is peak 2019 regressive leftist virtue signal woke culture. Who do they think their target audience is? Conservative Muslim men who think women should be covered up? Leftists NEED to stop glamorizing modesty culture. You have a right to wear what you want, but for the love of human progress, let’s leave it at that. How do these people think women in Islamic countries who are forced to cover up feel about tone-deaf westerners thinking their oppression is cute and fashionable? Makes me cringe to no end, and I’m glad that at least my therapist agrees with me.

I haven't seen the cover but I think there is nothing wrong with modesty. There is nothing wrong with bikinis, there is nothing wrong with hijabs and ultimately it has nothing to do with me what another choses to wear! Evidence suggests that very few women are forced to cover up and in fact an equal number of Jewish and Christian women have dress restrictions placed on them. Personally, I don't like seeing young girls in skimpy clothes. Although they have a right to dress anyway they chose, until we can change toxic masculinity, they are at risk. I remember my (then 13 year old) daughter on hols getting a henna tattoo on her tummy button, she was in a bikini with a sarong on. I had to literally scream at some young men who made lewed comments at her. In addition, there is something positive about being seen for you and not because you are barely dressed. I always tell my student nurses, 'your uniform is your superhero cloak and no one can underestimate you in it'. Veils have an extremely long human tradition, they are not at all a religious necessity and not bound to Islam. Some Jewish women are veiled, as are some Christians. RC women wear mantillas in church.
Really its not my business what anyone elses...or yours.

There are ZERO countries on the planet where catholic and Jewish women are forced to cover up.

@TheDarkNolanite It is a question of definition of "forced". Not necessary by the government but by husbands, family or religious groups.

@TheDarkNolanite Yes there is!

@Amisja Will these catholic and Jewish women be beaten and jailed for not covering their hair? Can you point out these countries?

I hadn’t seen the cover, but after reading the above googled it. It is so sad that this is being celebrated as some sort of victory for Muslim women. It’s neither a victory for Muslim women or women in general. The day that any woman, Muslim or not, can go to any beach or swimming pool and wear a swimsuit of her choice displaying her legs, arms and decollletage, without being told that she is too immodest or having to be segregated to a women only bathing area...that will be the the day real progress has been made against Muslim misogyny.

Agreed 100%! Sports Illustrated is celebrating gender apartheid and calling it progress. Makes me sick. And I’m not the only one.
