All politicians watch public opinion and adapt .. there are very few who stand alone on a moral issue against the tide of public opinion

No know him personally he is a descent person who cares says unpopular things at times I live in Delaware and you can ask most people from here about him . He is popular enough to unseat trump take away some of his middle class base and Obama did pick him and they are best buds really that should tell you something

I think most good politicians tell people what they want to hear and are therefore, adaptive...they are professional sales people with a lot to sell...does it make him an opportunist?...yes...not at all
unexpected...unfortunately, this time around, a lot of people are not going to buy old crap...been there done that...we need something new...
