How Many of Us Have Heard or Read About the BBC Project on What Jesus May Have Actually Looked Like?

"Jesus is so familiar that he can be recognised on pancakes or pieces of toast.

But did he really look like this?

Probably not.

In fact this familiar image of Jesus actually comes from the Byzantine era, from the 4th Century onwards, and Byzantine representations of Jesus were symbolic - they were all about meaning, not historical accuracy.

They were based on the image of an enthroned emperor, as we see in the altar mosaic of the Santa Pudenziana church in Rome."

That's from what a first-century Palestinian Jew likely looked like. It makes him look like George Michael.

As an atheist, I don't care what Jesus, god, or the Tooth Fairy look like.

Are we going to leave the religious zealots and their indoctrination of the next generations alone?

@Tiramisu

The only person I can control or change is myself.

@LiterateHiker What about giving back to society? In this case, the truth. I believe you can change many lives for good. We all can make some impact.

@Tiramisu

Read my profile.

Since 2006 as a volunteer college mentor, I have helped low income, first generation students write essays for college and scholarship applications. One of my best success stories is Brenda, who won $269,445 in scholarships in 2016.

Since 2017, as a volunteer, I have registered high school students to vote in April and September. Last September, we registered 74 students to vote in four hours, total.

As a volunteer, I also raise money for YMCA youth scholarships.

In June 2018, I took four young women I previously mentored on a hike around Icicle Gorge, WA.

From left: Tammy, a Vietnamese immigrant is studying to be a neurosurgeon at the University of Washington. Elizabet is studying to be a pediatrician. Teresa is studying to be an accountant.

@LiterateHiker B R A V O !!

I believe that reducing religion is the single most largest cause that will do the most good to humanity in the world at a faster pace than any other single cause.

@Tiramisu Sounds like preaching to me? To a believer - you do not speak their truth - so it doesn't matter... but if it makes you feel superior - then go for it.

@FrostyJim I am talking to all faithfools. That's the whole idea. I am not talking to myself. I know it drives them crazy.

There is actually no real documented historical record, written during the years he was supposed to have lived, that this man ever existed at all but is instead just a mythical conglomerate of fables written about many years later...

That seems very very likely. I think the research and article suggest that man of that era looked like the model.

Looks a lot like a Neandertal.

This was not how Jesus actually looked like. This was glorification and imagination. The business of fooling people.

Makes you wonder about the modern Euro-Jew and their claims on Palestine. I wonder if there is any familial links with Ashkenazis, or was Koerstler right that they were actually Kazaris?
