When will this ridiculous stop? Why can he not be arrested for world wide child sex abuse in the church?

I actually like this Pope for a lot of different reasons that has nothing to do with religion...

I'm not a fan, but happy you feel free to express that here...(got your back 😉

@seattlepanda His stance on climate change and his obvious dislike of tRump makes him as a person appealing to me despite his religious beliefs...he inherited this mess and it won't be fixed for some time...he has made some sweeping changes to old practices that don't seem to make the rounds...

I get it but I'm also getting a bit tired of atheists blaming the Church for sex crimes. Just like I'm tired of different political groups blaming each other for sex crimes. These things happen throughout society on a very regular basis. Everyone only seems interested in using the narrative to disparage entire groups of people who they agree with for other reasons when someone from the other side gets publicly accused. I hear about child molestation and sexual assault every day all day but almost never in the context of fixing this problem in human society or giving a crap about the hordes of unknown victims. Only in the context of demonizing Christian's, Republicans, or Democrats.

It is slightly different for the church because they are denied sex and that undoubtedly makes the problem more in this scenario. This isn't the convention I most often here about it though. Usually to me it sounds like taking advantage of the juicy sexual nature of the news to advance a completely different agenda.

We do not blame the church(es) so much for sex crimes as for their chronic failure to do anything about it, together with their addiction to cover-up. The church(es) never admit to anything until the perp is in handcuffs on his way to the slammer. When the armed forces or police are accused of similar abuses people lose their jobs or are demoted or jailed, generally quite promptly. I find this ironic in view of the difference in training and mandate of the two type of organisations.

@Arouet Sex crimes are covered up and ignored regularly in all those places. I experienced a similar situation (not church related) as a child and other actual sex crimes (with an s) as an adult. I know specifically of many other sex crimes.that happened. some reported, some not, some to minors, some not. I don't know anyone who was brought to justice for them. None of them were church related.

I am very tired of hearing graphicly about who put who's fingers where every time I turn on the news. It doesn't seem to be in the interest of the victims. It almost never addresses the pervasiveness in society beyond using a sexual horror story to demonize a political or religious "other".

As far as police and other officials go, it's pretty well documented that many of them do it to. Police raping people under threat of arrest and not facing consequences is also a thing that happens. Sounds like those detention centers are known for workers molesting those kids in cages, and covering it up. Not to mention worker visas that put the employer in a controlling place (called rape visas by some for this reason). Not to mention college campuses and how rape victims have to meet with the assailants and "work it out" instead of contacting police...

I wasnt even talking about those things though that are all specific places other than the church that are extra pervasive. I was talking about random kids and karate teachers like me, or restaurant workers and all the other crap you don't hear about. I see it being spun as a celebrity or dark church problem and that is my issue. It's an everyone problem.

I guess I think there are enough real sex criminals to go after without trying to twist things and blame the Pope. It's one of those things that gets me once in a while and I feel like I have to call it out with a rant. Not about this post specifically just the trend I se in atheists and society in general.
