I often wish I could send a message to the scientific community to let them know why they are losing the climate change debate in the public forum. They don't seem to understand since I see no effort to address it. The real reason isn't a lack of evidence, because they aren't looking at the evidence. The average person knows the temperature can change by 50 degrees or more in a single day where they are so when you tell them the average global temp is going to rise by 2 or 3 degrees they can't understand why it matters. They don't know the difference between the temperature today outside and the average global temp. Until they understand they are 2 different things they won't take it seriously.

They aren't losing the debate in the public forum. The majority of the world understands it and so does the majority of the United States. The fact that idiots are running the country doesn't take away from the fact that everybody else understands it

Its true people do not know the difference between climate and weather. They conflate the two.

Living in Southern Indiana I get to debate this a lot. I was surprised to find out just how widespread the misunderstanding was. Once I heard their reasoning it really made sense to me why so few accept it. If I didn't know there was a difference between the two measurements I would have thought the same way I guess. I do tend to trust people that are way more knowledgeable than I am on a subject and have proof to back it up so maybe not.

The human brain isn't wired for logic, people believe all sorts of silliness with little encouragement (flat earthers etc.) And with climate change you have the most profitable industry on the planet doing their best to sow doubt where there is none, so no surprise scientists are losing the "debate."

I get there is a lot of money and effort being made to play off humans weaknesses. The dumb are always easy to fool, partly because they think they are actually smart. Dunning Kruger effect and all. In all my debates with these people it became clear to me they just don't get this critical difference. If you don't understand that point you will blow off a few degrees increase as ridiculous to be concerned about. When I explain the difference they seem to get it.

People are just smart. They understand that the climate change brouhaha is nothing else but an ultra liberal wealth redistribution attempt.

that's the opposite of smart, I guess maybe you are who I'm talking about.

As capitalism continues to destroy those things most worth preserving on the planet.

There it is, the dumbest thing I’ll read today.
