The answer to the question posed here is, "It won't stop. It will continue to its logical conclusion and we are along for the ride." Civilisations have always been built on slavery in one guise or another. Outright slavery, women as chattels, serfs in a feudal system, a peasant underclass, wage slavery, ....
Perhaps robots are civilisation's new slave class. But in that case the majority of the idle upper classes need to be more equal.
